City Pub Group Past, Present, & Future

Past

Early 2011 Clive Watson, David Bruce and John Roberts had a vision of creating a portfolio of high quality, independent premium pubs across London, cathedral cities and market towns. In October the company was officially founded in two halves: City Pub Company East and City Pub Company West. In March 2012 City Pub Company West opened the doors to its first pub, the Cork in central Bath. In May City Pub Company East opened the doors to The Mill in Cambridge. By the end of 2012 there were four fabulous venues open and trading, two in Cambridge, one in Oxford and one in Bath. The next year saw another six open in Winchester, Bath, London, and Norwich. Five more came on board in 2014 and by end of 2016 there were 21 venues in total. In November of 2017 City Pub Company East and City Pub Company West merged to create The City Pub Group (CPG) with an impressive 35-strong estate. Following on from a successful float on AIM, 2018 brought with it a real opportunity for growth, resulting in a further thirteen acquisitions over 12 months.

Present & Future:

This is where the past ends and our future begins! With a rapidly growing estate of unique venues across England and Wales (and more in the works) ranging from local boozer in an alley in Central London to boutique hotels on the North Norfolk Cost (and everything in between), talented and experienced operators, a streamlined and passionate Central Support Team, and an ethos of entrepreneurialism, creativity, and fun, we're well placed to continue this growth at pace. The key to our success has always been and always will be our people. We’re proud of the people that operate and support what has become an extremely unique group of businesses. Many of the people from the early days of CPG are still with the company today. Jim, who was GM of The Cork, is now a Regional Director for all the West Country and Tom, his former AM, is now an Ops Manager in London. We’re always looking to meet great people to help drive CPG into the future.
