About Your Next Role
Kitchen
Our chefs are an integral part of our success who get to utilise and develop their skills whilst tangibly progressing their career. Because none of our venues are the same, we boast a whole variety of food offers that see our chefs carving up top-notch Sunday roasts in quintessential local English pubs, prying open dozens of oysters in seafront restaurants, building brilliant burgers in our brew houses, experimenting with new plant-based produce, and so much more.
Whether Kitchen Porter, Commis Chef, CDP, Breakfast Chef, Sous Chef, or Head Chef, we've got a position to suit any experience level. Not only that but we offer Level 2 through 4 culinary apprenticeships and Senior Chef Development Programme options.
Front of House
Here at CPG, we’re all about putting our people first - whichever side of the bar you’re standing on. Whether it's a birthday party, a quiet dinner with friends or family, a major sporting event, a wedding or just a good old knees up, our teams specialise in having fun at work whilst making sure our guests do the same! Because none of our venues being the same, we’re able to offer a whole variety of roles, that includes shaking things up behind a cocktail bar, becoming a little bit beer bonkers, offering above and beyond table service, wowing people with wine knowledge, running events, taking control of our social media, serving up epic BBQs to the masses, and even hosting quiz nights!
So, whether it’s full-time or part-time, a career pathway or stop-gap, we are a great place to learn, develop and make your mark! We understand that everyone has dreams and goals, and we aim to help people make them a reality - even if it’s not ultimately going to be within hospitality. All we ask in return is for you to bring your A-game and personality to work and take pride in what you do, and we’ll take care of the rest!
Management
Our most successful managers take a hands-on, collaborative and entrepreneurial approach to running their venues. They work with their teams to create and develop new opportunities, try out their ideas and take ultimate responsibility for driving their businesses forward and making them a success.
We like our managers to not only love, but also understand and run their businesses as though they were their own. We want them to find solutions rather than problems. We also expect our managers to take a hands-on approach to motivating and training their teams and therefore offer a training calendar packed full of courses and an abundance of tools to help them make it happen.
It might sound like we’re asking a lot, but there is an experienced support team on hand and we’re proud to invest heavily in supporting our people’s development through a variety of structured training programmes. We also offer oodles of great benefits and a transparent, competitive, and highly achievable bonus scheme to reward all the hard work.
Support
Here at CPG, we don’t consider ourselves as ‘Head Office’, but rather a support team. We’re the ones behind the scenes that are here to help our frontline teams make it happen.
Because of this a lot of us don’t even have a desk! We prefer to be field based, out in the venues, getting to know our people and ensuring we’re always on hand to provide support. However, to keep things ticking over we do have a central London HQ that provides a whole host of functions and operates an open-door policy.
From marketing to finance, systems to people and everything in between, we all take a collaborative approach to achieving wonderful things, encouraging everyone to have their say and get involved. Many of our Support Team even have experience running pubs and restaurants, some have come directly from the pubs themselves to grow their careers and put their expertise to good use.
Brewing
With Brew Houses across the country, we have a team of amazing Brewers making tasty and fun cask and keg beers. Whilst we may not have a position at the moment, send us your CV – you never know what kind of opportunity or new opening might be brewing!
City Pub Group Past, Present, & Future
Past
Early 2011 Clive Watson, David Bruce and John Roberts had a vision of creating a portfolio of high quality, independent premium pubs across London, cathedral cities and market towns. In October the company was officially founded in two halves: City Pub Company East and City Pub Company West. In March 2012 City Pub Company West opened the doors to its first pub, the Cork in central Bath. In May City Pub Company East opened the doors to The Mill in Cambridge. By the end of 2012 there were four fabulous venues open and trading, two in Cambridge, one in Oxford and one in Bath. The next year saw another six open in Winchester, Bath, London, and Norwich. Five more came on board in 2014 and by end of 2016 there were 21 venues in total. In November of 2017 City Pub Company East and City Pub Company West merged to create The City Pub Group (CPG) with an impressive 35-strong estate. Following on from a successful float on AIM, 2018 brought with it a real opportunity for growth, resulting in a further thirteen acquisitions over 12 months.
Present & Future:
This is where the past ends and our future begins! With a rapidly growing estate of unique venues across England and Wales (and more in the works) ranging from local boozer in an alley in Central London to boutique hotels on the North Norfolk Cost (and everything in between), talented and experienced operators, a streamlined and passionate Central Support Team, and an ethos of entrepreneurialism, creativity, and fun, we're well placed to continue this growth at pace. The key to our success has always been and always will be our people. We’re proud of the people that operate and support what has become an extremely unique group of businesses. Many of the people from the early days of CPG are still with the company today. Jim, who was GM of The Cork, is now a Regional Director for all the West Country and Tom, his former AM, is now an Ops Manager in London. We’re always looking to meet great people to help drive CPG into the future.
